Speaking is not a goal in itself, but rather an opportunity to share stories, experiences and thoughts with other human beings.

Since 2004, Florence shares her knowledge during conferences, workshops, or seminars on various topics related to Wikipedia, wikis, online collaboration, virtual communities, and social media.

She can speak in French or in English.

Wikipedia, an amazing world-wide collaboration project

Based on her experience, as an editor at Wikipedia since 2002, as former Chair of the board of Trustees of Wikimedia Foundation (the charity hosting Wikipedia), and as current board member of Wikimedia France in charge of fundraising, Florence will tell you anything you want to know about the Wikipedia project (its editing process, the Wikipedia community, online collaboration, the governance structure, free knowledge and free culture, and much more), the Wikimedia Foundation (its business model, its growth, legal strategy of a open source open access project, management of frequent communication crisis, dealing with volunteers, dealing with diversity, non profit governance) and the other Wikimedia project (wikibooks, wikisource etc.)

“I have worked with Florence in the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation Inc. when she was Chair and I was boardmember. Florence is a very capable and hard-working person, she combines absolute integrity with a keen strategic vision and a talent to comprehensively and unrelentingly study a vast number of relevant facts concerned. She has been and still is a great communicator and inspiration for a vast international community. She is one of the rare persons one can trust blindly.” March 22, 2009

Adopt a wiki

A wiki is a website that allows the easy creation and editing of any number of interlinked Web pages, using a simplified language directly within the browser. They are typically used to create collaborative websites, to power community websites, for personal note taking, in corporate intranets, and in knowledge management systems. Wikipedia is based on a wiki.
Whilst setting up a wiki is a pretty easy task of a developper, really running a wiki to improve productivity and collaboration within an organization is not such an easy task.
A long-time user of wikis, Florence will guide you in the discovery of wiki-based communities and the practical implementation of such tools in the workplace.

“Florence has a vision. As Chair of the Wikimedia Foundation, she helped bring the organisation one step further, from a small non-profit to one of the major actors of the non-profit scene today. She is a compelling speaker, as well as an excellent pedagogue. She knows how to captivate her audience and bring forward the important challenges of collaborative work, as well as help people understand how to apply her teachings to their everyday issues. She’s your best bet to bring your organisation forward in the area of collaborative practices.”

Grow online communities

An online community is a group of people that primarily interact via a communication and information system based on a computer network, such as newsletters, email, internet social network service or instant messages rather than face to face, for social, professional, educational or other purposes. But more than simply communicating, virtual communities form “when people carry on public discussions long enough, with sufficient human feeling, to form webs of personal relationships”. Participants share a common interest, idea, task, or goal, across time, geographical and organizational bounderies.
The embedding of virtual community in the experiences of everyday life and its reflection of and influence on the communication practices and patterns of identity formation make online community a colossal research enterprise which requires continuous investigation and theorizing.
Still, many (such as businesses or political leaders) wish to simply and pragmatically know more about online communities, how they form, how they operate, what makes them successful, or why they disappear, and how they can be used to facilitate reaching a certain goal (be it “building an encyclopedia”, “being elected”, “promoting a product brand”, or “collecting feedback from users of a service”).
After years of activities in various online communities, Florence will share her experiences and knowledge with you for a better understanding of communities lifecycle and activities.

Top qualities: Personable, Expert, Creative
“Anthere/Florence deserves more than just the three attributes above. She is a passionate community leader, an excellent and sought-after speaker in English (and I would assume possibly French as well!), and a veritable encyclopedia of biological and biome knowledge. Oh, she built such an Encylopedia too? And the highest ranked on the web? hmmm, what a surprise. That she now chairs the parent Foundation is not a coincidence. Hang out with this brilliant and powerful community leader someday and you’ll find her curiously self-effacing and shy. Yet somehow she keeps on doing with her modest life what it takes 3 others to do normally. Or maybe she’s up to 4 now. Highly recommended.”
